Free Speech and Debate Help for Middle Schoolers!

Do you want your child to improve their confidence with public speaking? Are you looking to further their middle-school-debate skills?

I’m the president of the local high school debate team and I’m going to be hosting biweekly speech-and-debate help sessions throughout the end of June and July for middle-schoolers — from beginners to competitors — to improve their organization, presentation, and argumentative skills.

These lessons will be up-front in person (online) and go over topics such as how to build a proper speech, how to use and attack logical fallacies, and how to ease into a career as a competitor in a high-school program. They’ll also go over proper presentation skills and how to speak slowly and clearly. These skills are increasingly essential in a world that depends on face-to-face communication, even if your child isn’t particularly interested in competitive activity.

At home fun volunteering:Making Cards/Letters for Seniors

Hi Everyone,
I have started and created a website called smilecard.org. It is an initiative to collect and organize cards and letters all in one place. From this website, senior centers and other places can download and print all the beautiful cards to hand over to someone who needs some cheer. Here is where you come in:). Please make ( or/and encourage kids to make) as many cards/letters you would like and upload it to this website. Anyone who makes and uploads 25 or more cards will get their picture and a small description put in on the website under “the contributors” section. So please, make some cards and upload them to smilecard.org to bring a smile on someone’s face. If everyone makes a couple of cards, we can all help the lonely, isolated seniors, by giving them some joy during this time and always as there is a huge need for this per the senior communities. Together we can make a difference!
Thank you,
Apara Sai

Advanced Writing Program- Prep for Next Grade

Writing is an important life skill. It is not only important for academics but is a requirement for college admissions and for a successful professional life. Current school closures have made it even more critical.
Do not take it lightly. Parents SPEND thousands of dollars during high school years for SAT Prep and College Essay Counseling. That is a quick bandaid fix. Every parent should think of writing as a foundational skill that needs to be nurtured from an early age/grade level. You can INVEST a few hundred dollars now and help your child develop a skill that they will reap benefits from for the rest of their lives.
My name is Eileen Mammen and I am an ELA educator with over 25 years of experience mentoring students from all grade levels in English Writing, Reading Comprehension, Grammar and Vocabulary. Contact my office today at 925-973-8087 or email [email protected] to get started. I have developed an 8-week advanced writing and reading comprehension summer program that helps students prep for the next grade level. I promise you’ll not just see an improvement in ELA but an overall improvement in grades as my curriculum focuses on success for your child.
