“Lucky Boy” author Shanthi Sekaran to speak in Livermore
Author Shanthi Sekaran will discuss the interplay of immigration, parenting, class privilege and incarceration at the heart of her much-acclaimed novel “Lucky Boy” in a Rae Dorough Speaker Series talk at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14 in the Bankhead Theater.
With immigration stories in the news almost daily and heated debate over related policy, Sekaran offers a clear-eyed view of the issues in all their complexity and human dimension. She delves deep into the stories that recount dramatically different immigration experiences.
“Immigration is the ultimate story – it encompasses every basic plot type: rags to riches, overcoming the monster, the quest, rebirth, comedy, tragedy, voyage and return,” Sekaran said in an interview published by BookBrowse. “Migration is a process of transcendence that reaches into so many aspects of our lives; it’s not always about passports and visas. Motherhood is a form of migration. So is love, and so is death.”

Hello everyone,
I’ve some time on weekends and would like to explore starting a catering business which provides specialty Indian dishes which are not available in Indian restaurants here in the SF Bay area. While we do see many new restaurants spring up here, I find that some of the recipes and flavors which I have encountered while growing up are still not available.
I have a passion for cooking and many of these recipes have been handed down to me by Mom or relatives from India with an emphasis on food from Bangalore/Karnataka/Tamil Nadu/AP/Kerala/Maharashtra.
The dishes are prepared in small batches with a focus on nutritional value and cooked with the least amount of oil, salt or sugar without compromising the taste of the dish.
I’m thinking of starting with 1 dish per weekend and would be accepting orders for this Saturday Nov 2nd 2018. Orders will be ready for pickup by 11:30 am from my home in Pleasanton.
